Fishing - Chapter by Chapter

When reading a book you start out by looking at the cover, and the same is true for fishing. In this case, your cover is the weather and whatever conditions surround you. Note the wind speed and direction, where is the sun, what tidal movement is there if any, the temperature and so on. Whether you are going to fish from a boat, kayak or wade fish this information is vital to your success. It can tell you where to fish and what species you are going to target.

Now that the basic decision-making is done, you can head for the water to do some more heavy reading. As you paddle out you see all the early morning activity on the water. There are schools of mullet of all sizes and baby shrimp jumping for their very lives up close to shore. If the bait source is running away, they are being chased by something, so that would be a good place to cast. As you look down, there are crabs scurrying across the bottom. What are they fleeing from? Notice their speed and direction, and use that information to figure out where to cast your lure.

Birds are another great fishing indicator, especially when they are feeding. My favorites to follow are the blue heron, pelicans and gulls. All of this wildlife activity is useful if you know how to read it. Not only can it help to find fish but also give clues as to what they are feeding on,...

15 Carp Fishing Bait Methods To Improve Your Hook Baits!

Many methods can be used to enhance your hook baits effects and productivity. The carp ability to learn is beyond doubt, otherwise they would simply be as easy to catch as they are when virgin fish which have never been fished for. One of the easiest ways to change your bait to get an extra edge over wary fish is to use a liquid bait soak consisting of flavours, oils or amino acids.

You can make homemade dips using many house-hold food items including oils and juices from tinned fruits and canned fish. Pastes and pastes are very under-used items and mix with various liquids to make effective nutritional cheap dips. It is cheaper to make homemade boilies but steam them instead of boiling them for better catches!

Paste or dough is great used as a coating around all kinds of other hook baits. With paste you know there is no barrier from boiled protein as with conventional boilies that prevent most of your baits attraction from reaching the fish to stimulate them into feeding! Among the items around the kitchen to use are tinned salmon, tuna, herring, mackerel, anchovies and pilchards which can all be made into paste with added eggs and wheat flour to bind; it's simple ,...

Big Carp and Catfish Bait Flavours And Feeding Triggers!

As a plea to the average carp and catfish angler; it is possible to double and treble your catches (and more but you probably would not believe me,) by treating fish as swimming tongues! It seems to go right over most anglers heads that fish can be manipulated (big-time) by what is dissolved into the water that surrounds them from specifically adapted baits… So why not let this be the start of something big for you too!

Carp and catfish often live in the same waters and are targeted by anglers fishing in similar ways for each so I’ll place these together. A good reason to use catfish and carp together as examples of tongues that swim is the sheer number of physical similarities in substance detection and also their shared quite similar essential nutritional needs that often means the same bait design can catch both; and very big ones too!

Many anglers know little about the specifically adapted cells in and outside of fish that enable them to detect substances in water on a chemical level even down to a few parts in a million or even billion, and this is one of the most powerful aspects of fish we can exploit with our baits to make them far easier to catch!

A human smelling a bait in air is more than a little different to a fish detecting the bait in solution in water and for this reason many anglers simply choose the baits and substances they use from their,...

Tips on Finding a Fishing Guide

1. Open Communication matters. It is important that you provide the guide all the information they need so that they will figure out what kind of fishing trip is best for you. Be sure to be honest in telling the guide how much experience you have regarding fishing. This will help them to know what advice and tips to give you so that you can make the most out of your time.
2. Seek the help of friends and relatives. Ask your friends and relatives who have fished and if not they may be able to provide you with some referrals. It is better to ask them about their experiences, the things that you need to do and things that you have to look for in a guide. They may be also to provide you referrals of the guides they have tried and found effective for them.

This will be a chance for you to ask if the guide they are referring you to has enough knowledge or is accommodating to clients.

3. Browse the Internet. The Internet can provide a lot of websites where you can find the best guides in a certain location. You can also post messages and questions regarding the website and they may be able to find the information you need.

4. Determine if your prospective guide is licensed. It is better that you know that the person you are working with is working according to the law. A licensed guide is also sure to be relied on especially with the matters of integrity and trust. Ask the guide of their name and phone numbers including the state-licensing bureau. A guide who is not willing to provide you the information you are asking for is not worth your time.

5. Find out exactly what you are paying for and how long the amount would cover. You need to know this information for you to be able to manage your schedule before the fishing trip and,...

Best Baits To Use For Big Blue Catfish

Blue cats are not very pickers when they are young. As they get older, wiser and bigger they do seem to be more selective in their eating festivities. Catfishing bait for bigger blues is wide open when using cut bait (bait fish that is cut and fished with instead of live bait) from, skipjack herring, blue back herring, gizzard shad, threadfin shad, bream, sunfish, crappie, pretty much any type of cut bait.

Your smaller blue cats can be caught using the same cut bait as above and they act like channel cats in that they will eat a variety of home made or grocery store baits from chicken livers, chicken gizzards, hot dogs, cheese, dip baits, punch bait, beef liver or beef kidneys, home made beef or chicken blood baits, and other varieties of home made baits. Many different types of worms also work well as bait.

Blue catfish are also caught using live bait as well, so again the bait list for blue cats are wide open but big cutbaits are the choice of many guides and tournament fishermen when chasing Big Blue,...

A Guide to Non-Typical Catfish Fishing Techniques

Introduction

Many of the people about to take one of my guided trips don’t believe that Catfish feed as aggressively as other game fish. People are used to throwing out their bait and letting it set while they wait. Some days this works and they don’t have to wait very long, but some days we all know that the wait can be very long. This waiting is what encouraged me to try to catch Blue Cats using other methods. Some techniques are passed down from generation to generation and these tried and true methods have caught Catfish since people have fished for them. I have used these methods most of my life and it was the way I was taught to catch Catfish. On the opposite end of the Cat-fishing spectrum, however, are two newer methods that I have been using to consistently catch Catfish, as well.

Fishing for Catfish

Ah, the American Catfish! The big three: Blues, Channel Cats and Flatheads; aren’t they a wonderful species of fish? Each one has its own outstanding features to thrill Catfishermen and women throughout the United States and even worldwide. Flatheads, with their big, wide heads and flat tails, have my vote as the hardest pulling fish pound-for-pound in fresh water. No Catfisherman can talk very long without telling their favorite Channel Cat story.

Channel Cats live almost anywhere in fresh water and eat an enormous variety of baits, from prepared stink baits to live baits. I believe these whisker fish are the most versatile and adaptive members of the Catfish family. The next Catfish member, the Blue Cat, also commonly called a White Cat, gets my pick for the best all around, year-round Catfish. This is also the fish I target with my non-typical Cat-fishing techniques. Although Channel Cats and Flatheads are caught using these techniques, Blue Cats remain the king in mass numbers. These dudes grow big and fast and will strike your bait with a vengeance. Plus, they pull hard in the Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.

The Blue Catfish

The Blue Cat is truly an amazing fish. I have caught these fish as deep as 96 feet at the bottom of a river channel in cold water
conditions. I have also seen them come right up to the top and smash a school of shad just as a Striper or White Bass would do in warm water conditions. As far as I can tell, these fish feed aggressive all year, which in my opinion sets them apart from Flatheads and Channel Cats. Reports of Blues falling for lead spoons, jigs, crank baits, and many other artificial lures are not uncommon any time of the year. The other Blue Cat bonus...

UK Carp Fishing Bait Secrets Of Getting More Big Fish Bites!

Few carp fishermen realise that fish can switch their modes of feeding and you can exploit these and manipulate these to catch more fish! In fact you can make fish feed in the specific way you want by the form and size of baits you introduce as ground bait or chum making it ideal for far more natural and confident feeding leading to more bites.

If you ever fished a match using tiny hooks for bloodworm or jokers as bait, you will know how powerful these fish catching baits are. One of the best feeding triggers for carp and one of the most abundant amino acids found in mature carp tissues is alanine which also happens to be found in abundance in blood worms and jokers. Fish instinctively...

Catfishing Holidays - When and Where

There are so many different types of fishing holidays but one of the best is to go for a catfishing holiday. There are some brilliant catfishing holidays out there in some brilliant destinations. One of the best destinations to go to is the river Ebro in Spain. This is the largest river in Spain and contains catfish that weigh up to and over 200lbs, it sees some of the best catfishing in the whole of Europe with so many fish being caught you will want to return for more as soon as you have finished.
If you are going to be go catfishing then you must go to the Ebro, you will find that the fishing is different every single day and you will never have a bad moment. You can sit in the sun all day with your rods in the water and you will catch so many catfish it is unreal, so many people return here for their holidays due to the fact that the fishing is so exciting here
Another good thing about catfishing holidays is that you can get to the best fishing areas in Europe for relatively cheap. There are always flights out from London that are going cheap leaving you to have more fun on your holidays.
The wels catfish which are found in the river Ebro are going to give you the time of your life when you start your fishing for them on your holidays, these fish can be huge and the fact that there are so many here can not be bad.
If you are now thinking, "Great I want to go now", think about it first. You will want to know what time of year is best for you to go on your holidays. Even though fishing for these kinds of fish can be done all year round, and is considered pretty good all year round, you will want to think about weather, time of fishing, who is going with you etc. I have found that the best time of year to go is round early June, just after the catfish have stopped spawning. The weather is also brilliant at this time of year so if you are taking kids or your other halves etc on your catfishing holidays, you may wish to go in the summer months for a better family experience.
If you are taking kids on your holiday then the summer months will definitely be the best time to go as we are always seeing some amazing fishing, with huge catches all the time. Also you can have a nice relaxed day in the sunshine and then hit the river in the evening or early morning where you will find some brilliant fishing with a lot of big catches.
All in all I would recommend going on holiday on the Ebro if you like hot weather, a chilled out holiday (until you snag one of these fish, where everything goes mad) and great accommodation then go for a catfishing holiday in the river Ebro, you will love it!
